Seeking Answers to Difficult Questions

It is fairly clear that there are many difficult questions which remain unanswered or unasked in Mann. Here's a few of those difficult questions which hopefully will be answered in the coming year.

We have Manx Nation Heritage, we have a Manx National Government, national politics, national radio and many other Manx national organisations exist. Why is it then that we still do not teach Manx national history to our children?

Why do we no longer use the word Manx to describe the people who live in our country? Why must we all be Isle of Man residents?

Why are hundreds and hundreds of new residents being enticed to come and live here at the same time as we have a housing shortage which denies the Manx an opportunity to buy a home in their own country? Didn't the overwhelming majority of those elected to the keys just over a year ago promise to deal with the housing? So why does Government continue to attract more and more people to come and live here?

Why are we considering weakening the work permit system at the same time as hundreds of people each year are moving to the Isle of Man to work? More alarmingly, why are we considering weakening the work permit system at the same time as Europe is about to substantially expand potentially opening up our job market to hundreds of thousands of workers from Eastern Europe?

Why do we pay vast sums of money to the BBC for a non existent service and at the same time complain heartily about paying Manx Radio enough money to provide a good national radio service?

Why do we keep seeing the Governor's face beaming out from the newspapers having just opened, launched awarded some thing or other - why is he representing us at all these events? Why do we not honour our President and Chief Minister by asking them to open, launch, award etc...

A personal one now - there are about 1,700 Manx speakers in Mann. Why don't more of them write articles for the papers?

Well, I'm pretty sure that most of the questions above will go unanswered but there is a growing number of people who will strive to ensure that the Isle of Man, the Manx and Manxness will be kept very much alive in the coming year.
