Its hard to believe that Easter is nearly upon us! Holidays for the children again so here's hoping that we get a few warm sunny days!
If you have a child who will be starting school next September its time to start thinking about registering your child with one of the primary schools.
Some parents have chosen to send their children to the new Manx medium class in St Johns and that option is available to you. In the Manx class all the lessons are taught entirely through Manx.
The children receive the same curriculum as their English only counterparts but in addition they learn to speak, read and write in Manx. Within the first few weeks of school the children quickly pick up the Manx language and soon start to use a few words and phrases in Manx.
The class is open to all children on the Isle of Man wherever they live and the overwhelming majority of children currently at the class do not come from Manx speaking families. The class is run by the Department of Education in association with Mooinjer Veggey and has been running for more than a year and a half.
The children and parents are very pleased with the class and numbers are growing steadily. It was pleasing to hear the Chief Minister in Tynwald last month announce that a second class will be established in September. This class will take the older children in years two and three.
The two Manx medium classes will be located in St Johns old school from September, although it will be under the direction of the Head of the new school. The Manx language peripatetic team will also be based in the old school building which effectively will become a new Manx Language Centre.
