When we set up Mooinjer Veggey last year we got a lot of help from the Scots, particularly CnaG and CNSA. They sent us a great deal of information and studies about the operation of playgroups and the ways by which young children learn other languages. I have written before about this help, however, it wasn’t just the Scots who helped us.

Sean O Bradaigh an Yn Cheshaght Ghailckagh member from Dublin, was as usual extremely helpful in providing all the information he could find about the Irish playgroups as well as translating and sending to me a number of pre-school books in Irish. A number of these books were particularly good for Mooinjer Veggey’s purpose, so I decided to order them. Sean worked out a good deal, but I had to ring up Mr Ó Cathasaigh to clinch the deal.

Diarmuid Ó Cathasaigh is the director of the Irish language book distributors ÁIS, which currently sell about £650,000 of Irish books each year. He was delighted to hear from some one from the Isle of Man and wanted to know everything that was going on in Manx language circles.

I told him a little bit about Feailley Ghaelgagh, and he said he would be interested in coming over. His interests in Irish lie beyond his books, as he is also a keen singer of Irish folk song. He will be singing later on in the Feailley Ghaelgagh week.

On Thursday, 26th, November, he will be speaking about his books at the Caarjyn ny Gaelgey Manx House in St Johns, at 7pm. He will also bring with him a selection of books to show us.
