Shoprite and the Lord Bishop
- great supporters of Manx Gaelic

Two awards will be presented at tonight's Cruinnaght Ghaelgagh (Gaelic concert of music and song) for outstanding contributions to the development of Manx as a living language. The 'Gaelg Vio' awards are presented annually by Yn Cheshaght Ghailckagh to an individual and a business or society who have used Manx in an imaginative and informative way and as a living language.

The Lord Bishop has been nominated to receive one of these awards in recognition of his stalwart support for the language. He does indeed offer a high profile witness in that on important public occasions both on and off the island, he uses Manx Gaelic - most recently at the opening of the new school at Cronk y Berry.

The other 'Gaelg Vio' award will be presented to Shoprite which in recent years has made high profile use of the Manx language in advertising and in the marketing of products in its supermarkets. Coincidentally Shoprite has recently launched its Christmas marketing campaign which contains considerably more Manx than ever before.

As a Manx company Shoprite is keen to use its Manxness to promote its business in the Isle of Man. Shoprite sees the Manx language as an unmistakable expression of its Manxness.

The Cruinnaght Ghaelgagh will take place at the Manx Museum at 8 pm tonight. The concert will include music and song from Scotland, Ireland and Mann, and the presentation of various awards for the use and promotion of Manx. Among the awards to be presented is the prestigious 'Kione y Sker' award. Presented by Conister Trust plc this award is given to a Manx language enthusiast who has made an outstanding contribution to the language.
