Forthcoming events and skeet:

Feailley Ghaelgagh. Peadar MacMuiris came over from Ireland to talk to us about Gaelic-medium pre-school and primary education. He was very supportive of Mooinjer Veggey and impressed by the quality of our staff and the high standards which they set. Bwaane yn ‘Eailley. Thanks to everyone who helped with the stall at the Strand Shopping Centre during Feailley Ghaelgagh.

Jesheenee yn Thie-Veg. Many thanks to Amy Mulhern who redecorated the toilet at Braddan School House for us.

Shooyl Vooinjer Veggey. The sponsored walk held in October raised £532.99 for Mooinjer Veggey. Thanks to everyone who helped and took part in this event.

Bing Vooinjer Veggey. We are always looking for new Mooinjer Veggey committee members to help plan the groups activities. Meetings are held once every two or three months and are fairly informal affairs. Let Cathy or Helen know if you would like to help on the committee, or indeed if you have any ideas which might help Mooinjer Veggey. The next meeting is at 8pm, on Tuesday 26th January, contact Helen for venue!

Mooinjer Veggey er y Twoaie.
Last November Mooinjer Veggey beggan a Parents and Tots Group at Bonwick House, Ramsey. We hope to open a full time playgroup in the north in the next few years, depending on the success of the parents and tots group and if a suitable venue can be found. If you know of or hear of any available premises in the north which we might use please let Cathy or Helen know.

Lioaryn ry-chreck. Mooinjer Veggey has many books and other items for sale. Ask Cathy for more details.

Cuirrey-kiaullee. Our very own ‘Marilyn Munroe’, Mairead Kerwin, will be performing in a play at Caarjyn ny Gaelgey’s House, St Johns, at 2.30 on Saturday, 6th February. Come along!

Activities at Mooinjer Veggey this term

This 12 week term will be packed with informative and enjoyable work (see themes below).

Note: If children would like to bring something in to contribute to our winter or spring display they are welcome to do so.


4th - 15th January - Snow and Winter. We will learn some action rhymes and songs, and craft activities will be based on this theme.

Important words related to this theme which you might like to use at home are: sniaghtey - snow, bluckan sniaghtee - snowball, dooinney sniaghtee - snowman, bane - white, lheiht - melted, lheie - melt/melting, geurey - winter, feayr - cold, sheean - noise. Ask Cathy for help with pronunciation of these words.

18th - 29th January - Post Office. The weekly theme will be reflected in the stories, rhymes and craft activities used over these weeks.
Important words will include: ben y phost - post woman, fer y phost - post man, dorrys - door, poagey - bag, screeunyn - letters, oik postagh - post office, gioot - present, cowraghyn postagh - stamps, eddrym - light, trome - heavy.

1st - 10th February - Big and Little. Our activities will help children develop their understanding of size.

Important words with this theme will be: mooar - big, beg - small, (ny) smoo - bigger/biggest, (ny) sloo - smaller/smallest, laare - floor, lheim - jump, bluckan - ball, un vluckan - one ball, daa vluckan - two balls, tree bluckanyn - three balls.

17th - 26th February - The Spring. In Manx February is called Toshiaght Arree, the beginning of spring. Our activities will show children the new growth which starts at this time of year.

Important words with this theme are: buinnaghyn - buds, duillagyn - leaves, yn arragh - the spring, fosley - opening, jeigh - shut/shutting, thunnag - duck, possan - group, logh - lake, moal - slow, tappee - fast.

1st - 12th March - Transport. Our activities will include stories, songs and rhymes about all kinds of wheeled transport

15th - 26th March - Easter. Eggs, chicks and Easter bunnies will dominate our activities during the run up to Easter
