Fastyr Lioar.
On Thursday 8th October, from 1 pm - 4 pm, an Usborne/Red House book party will be held at Mooinjer Veggey. Mooinjer Veggey will also have on sale some of the Manx books the children use at the playgroup.

Shooyl Vooinjer Veggey.
A children’s sponsored walk will be held on Sunday 18th October at 2pm. The walk will start at the South Barrule car park (on the A36 just off the Ballamodha - Foxdale Road) and will take about 1 hour, and will be followed by a cup of tea at the Manx House, St Johns. Sponsorship forms are available from Cathy - all money raised will go to Mooinjer Veggey!

Seiy Coshal ChildLine. The pedal push last June raised £242.50 for Childline. Gura mie eu everyone who helped.

Feailley Ghaelgagh. The Manx Gaelic Festival will be taking place again this year from the 21st - 28th November. There will be a Mooinjer Veggey open day again this year, and plans are well underway to bring speakers over from Ireland to talk about Gaelic-medium pre-school and primary education.

Giense y Nollick. Mooinjer Veggey’s Christmas party will take place on Wednesday 16th December from 11am to 2pm. Jishag y Nollick (Father Christmas) will be handing out presents, there’ll be lots of games, party food and seasonal cheer for parents!

Jesheenee yn Thie-Veg. The toilet needs to be redecorated. Anyone who would be willing to help with this should let Cathy know as soon as possible.

Bing Vooinjer Veggey. We are always looking for new Mooinjer Veggey committee members to help plan the groups activities. Meetings are held once every two or three months and are fairly informal affairs. Let Cathy or Helen know if you would like to help on the committee, or indeed if you have any ideas which might help Mooinjer Veggey.

Activities at Mooinjer Veggey this term

This 14 week term is the longest and hardest term for the children, however, an enjoyable and informative programme has been devised (see below).

Note: If children would like to bring something in to contribute to our autumn display they are welcome to do so.


8th - 18th September - My Hands and Myself. We will learn some hand action rhymes and songs, and craft activities will be based on this theme.

Important words related to this theme which you might like to use at home are: moghrey mie - good morning, kys t’ou? - how are you? laue - hand, glioonyn - knees, bassyn - palms, cassyn - feet. Ask Cathy for help with pronunciation of these words.

21st September - 2nd October - My House. The children move from learning about themselves to learning about homes and families. The weekly theme will be reflected in the stories, rhymes and craft activities used over these weeks.

Important words will include: thie - house, dorrys - door, uinnag - window, Mummig - Mum, Jishag - Dad, brother - braar, sister - shuyr, babban - baby, Mwarree - Grandma, Shenn ayr - Grandad.
5th - 16th October - The Harvest. Our activities will include changes in seasons, food, getting ready for the winter and cold days and different types of clothes.

Important words with this theme are: ooyl - apple, noirid - orange, corran-bwee - banana, peear - pear, billey - tree, duillag - leaf, appee - ripe, ushag - bird, gee - eating, giu - drinking.
19th - 23rd October and 2nd - 6th November - Old and New. Our activities will include changes in the year and Hop-tu-Naa.

Important words with this theme are: oie - night, laa - day, shenn - old, noa - new, oie houney - hop tu naa, napin - turnip, lantern - londeyr, soilshey - light, dorraghey - dark, skee - tired.

9th - 20th November - Fire. Our activities will include fire practice and talk about bonfires and bonfire night.

Important words with this theme are: aile - fire, chentagyn - fireworks, cheh - hot, feayr - cold, lostey - burning, ushtey - water, fliugh - wet, chirrym - dry, lightning - tendreil, taarnagh - thunder, moogheyder aile - fireman, carbyd mooghee - fire engine, jaagh - smoke, chimlee - chimney.

23rd November - 4th December - Colder Days. We will learn about what happens during colder days; where do the animals live, how do they keep warm and how do they change.

7th - 18th December - Christmas. The final fortnight of this term will be spent talking about and preparing for Christmas.
