Lesson Twenty: The Time Again

feed (feed) - 20
reesht (reesh) - again
Yn traa reesht (an-TRAA-reesh) - The time again.

We looked at telling the time in Lesson 10. To take this a bit further, we need words
like 'kerroo', meaning 'quarter'. As well as being used to tell the time, 'kerroo'
crops up as a measure of land. Have a look at a map of the Island to find examples
of this (sometimes spelled 'kerrow').
We pronounce 'kerroo' as 'KERR-oo' with the stress on the FIRST syllable:

kerroo (KERR-oo) - quarter
dys (duss) - to
lurg (lurg) - after
kerroo dys (KERR-oo-DUSS) - quarter to
kerroo lurg (KERR-oo-LURG) - quarter past

lieh (l'yay) - half
oor (oor) - hour
lieh oor lurg (l'yay-oor-lurg) - half (an hour) past

Some examples of times:
kerroo dys jees (KERR-oo-duss-JEESS) - quarter to two
kerroo lurg jees (KERR-oo-lurg-JEESS) - quarter past two
kerroo dys nane-jeig (KERR-oo-duss-NAAN-jegg) - quarter to eleven
kerroo lurg daa-yeig (KERR-oo-lurg-DAA-yegg) - quarter past twelve
lieh oor lurg kiare (l'yay-oor-lurg-K'YAYR) - half past four
