Peddyr: As cre'n sorch dy chiartey by vie lhiat jannoo?
Ean: Cha s'aym. Eirinagh, ny obbrinagh, foddee.
Peddyr: Dy beagh oo dty eirinagh, veagh oo er cosh feer voghey.

Ean: S'cummey shen.

sorch (surch) - sort
Cre'n sorch? (krinn-SURCH) - What sort?
Cre'n sorch dy chiartey? (krinn-SURCH-the-H'YART-a) - What sort of job?

Notice that 'kiartey' goes to 'chiartey' after 'dy'. This is one example of more general letter changes (mutations) which are caused by 'dy' (meaning 'of'). Here are two more examples:

tey
(tay)

- tea
cappan dy hey

(KAVV-an-the-HAY)

- a cup of tea

shugyr

(SHOO-gar)

- sugar
punt dy hugyr

(PUNT-the-H'YOO-gar)

- a pound of sugar

Cha s'aym (ha-SIMM) - I don't know.
eirinagh (AY-rinn-yakh) - a farmer
obbrinagh (OBB-rinn-akh) - a mechanic
foddee (FUTH-ee) - perhaps
veagh oo (VEE-ukh-oo) - you would be
dy beagh oo (the-BEE-ukh-oo) - if you were

Word for word, 'Dy beagh oo dty eirinagh' means 'If you were (in) your farmer' - or, putting it the long way round: 'If you were in your state of being a farmer'.
In normal English, this is 'If you were a farmer'.

er cosh (er-KOSH) - on foot

In Manx, if you are up, out of bed, you are 'on foot'.

feer voghey (feer-VAWGH-a) - very early
sollagh (SOLL-akh) - dirty
S'cummey shen (SKUMM-a-SHEN) - That doesn't matter.
