1. I raised myself from my chair.

5. When I was on Orry Street I met an old Manxman, and his dogs.

8. Yes indeed, I was out this morning down by Hillary's shore.
9. Where is that I said, I thought that I knew Douglas well.
10. It is easy to find at low tide he said.
11. You should walk along Athol Street and down to the harbour.
12. Then you cross the bridge and walk along the South Quay.
13. Go past the lifeboat house and follow the path up to Douglas Head.
14. Before you reach the lighthouse take the narrow path down to the
sea
15. At low tide you can easily walk round to the next bay.
16. There are still several cottages from the old days.
17. They were used by fishermen and smugglers
18. Beyond the cottages there are some deep pools to be seen.
19. They say there was a secret tunnel from the cottages
20. to the old Fort Anne, and that it was used by Hillary
21. to help his friend Napoleon against the English.
22. He kept a boat on the shore and sent food to the French ships.
23. He brought back good brandy and rum and made much money.
24. When his boat was found, he said it was a new life boat.
25. The people believed his story and collected money
26. to build a new boat house close to the Fort Anne.
27. There was no longer a need for the cottages
28. so they became ruins and a home for seagulls.
29. The tide was in when I walked past the lighthouse.
30. Perhaps I will see Hillary's shore another day.
